Daviess Community Hospital (DCH) is thrilled to announce that the special cookout fundraiser held on August 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Education Room 1 was a tremendous success, raising more than $1,300 to benefit the DCH Oncology Patient Assistance Fund. This crucial fund is dedicated to helping local cancer patients overcome obstacles that might hinder their treatment, ensuring they receive the care they need without financial barriers.
The cookout featured a mouth-watering menu, including hotdogs, hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, and dessert.
The DCH Auxiliary donated the desserts and their time preparing for and working at the event.
"We couldn't have done it without the Auxiliary's dedication and generosity. Their contribution was truly invaluable," said Sharon Mead, RN, OCN, ONN-CG, Daviess Community Hospital Cancer Patient Navigator. "Supporting our patients in their battle against cancer is a cause close to our hearts. This cookout was a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy great food, and contribute to a fund that directly impacts the lives of our oncology patients. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant difference."
Approximately 125 community members attended the event, making donations in cash, by check, or through payroll deduction for DCH employees. Unfortunately, card payments were not accepted. The generosity of the attendees was further supported by donations from Thrivent and Walmart, with Thrivent also providing t-shirts for the event's volunteers.
Grilling duties were expertly handled by Jeremy and Nathan Wininger, who ensured that everyone enjoyed a tasty meal, while the hospital's dietary services employees also pitched in to make the event a success. The Produce Patch donated fresh tomatoes and Knepp’s Café donated potato salad, adding local touches to the menu.
DCH is committed to providing comprehensive support to its patients, and the Oncology Patient Assistance Fund plays a crucial role in this effort. The fund assists patients with various needs, from transportation and lodging to medication and nutritional support, ensuring that financial barriers do not impede their treatment.
"This event was a wonderful example of how we can come together to support those in need, and the funds raised will make a real difference in the lives of our patients,” Mead added.
