Amber Gerkin awarded $5,000 Daviess Community Hospital Foundation Nursing Scholarship

The Daviess Community Hospital (DCH) Foundation and the DCH Nursing Scholarship Committee are pleased to announce that Amber Gerkin is the recipient of a $5000 Daviess Community Hospital Foundation Nursing Scholarship for 2024.

“I have been in wellness, healthcare for more than 20 years and am thrilled to add nursing,” said Gerkin. “I am taking my NCLEX boards this summer and completing certifications for trauma while working in the DCH Emergency Department. After working just a few shifts, I know this is the right position for me because it is high energy, includes patients with various diagnoses, treats multiple populations, and has a great staff I can learn from.”

This scholarship is a unique opportunity for nursing students going into their final year of nursing education. The scholarship is intended to support future nursing professionals as they achieve their educational objectives, nursing licensure and career goals nursing at Daviess Community Hospital. The funds are payable to the individual recipient. As a condition of the scholarship, the future nursing professional must sign an agreement to remain employed at DCH as a registered nurse in a direct patient care area full-time for a period of two years.

Nancy Devine, CNO at DCH, said, “This honor is in recognition of Amber’s academic accomplishments. We are very confident that she will meet the challenges with the same level of enthusiasm and enterprise that she has exhibited in her education. We are delighted to have her join our Emergency Department team!”
