At Daviess Community Hospital (DCH), a strong commitment to compassionate and specialized patient care is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to announce that Wendee Francis, RN, recently completed Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training through the Indiana SANE Training Project, a program of the University of Southern Indiana.
Held from March 10–14 in Evansville, the intensive training prepared Wendee to provide sensitive, trauma-informed care to patients across the lifespan who have experienced sexual violence. Funded by the Indiana SANE Training Project, this education expands access to crucial services, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Although formal SANE certification through the International Association of Forensic Nurses is a separate practice-based process, Wendee is fully trained and qualified to provide SANE care at DCH.
“Completing this training is just the beginning,” said Francis. “I am committed to continuing my education so I can provide the best possible care to those in crisis.”
Francis joins three other SANE-trained nurses at Daviess Community Hospital: Jessica Devine, RN; Abby Holcomb, RN; and Jenny Roberson, RN. Together, they ensure survivors in our community receive expert, compassionate care.
“Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners play a vital role in helping survivors feel safe, supported, and cared for,” said Christina Wininger, BSN, RN, Director of Emergency Services at DCH. “Wendee’s training strengthens our ability to respond with both clinical skill and emotional care, ensuring that every patient receives the respect and dignity they deserve. During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, it's especially important to recognize the value of this specialized care in our community.”
A native of Greene County, Francis lives in Newberry with her husband, Joshua, and brings years of nursing experience and a passion for advocacy to her role.
