Dr. Reginald Sandy is an affiliated Gastroenterologist at DCH. He specializes in endoscopic and gastroenterology procedures, including colonoscopy. He treats all types of upper and lower GI conditions including colorectal cancer. If you are over 45 years of age, ask your primary care doctor about having a baseline colonoscopy. This minimally invasive procedure can significantly reduce the risk of developing colon cancer.

Dr. Sandy can address digestion concerns and issues related to pelvic health and treat all types of GI conditions including Crohn’s disease, gluten sensitivities and food allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, Hepatitis C, and abdominal pain and bloating.

Heartburn, acid reflux and GERD

Chronic acid reflux disease is also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). If you have heartburn twice a week or more, you may have GERD. Heartburn is the most common symptom, but you may also experience:

• Hoarseness or sore throat
• Frequent swallowing
• Asthma or asthma-like symptoms
• Pain or discomfort in the chest
• Sleep disruption (unable to sleep lying down)
• Bloating
• Excessive clearing of the throat
• Persistent cough
• Burning in the mouth or throat
• Intolerance of certain foods
• Dental erosions or therapy-resistant gum disease or inflammation
