Pregnancy and the arrival of a new baby can bring feelings of excitement and joy—but many mothers also experience unexpected emotional challenges. At Daviess Community Hospital’s Women’s Health Center, our Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) Services provide compassionate, research-based care to help mothers feel supported, understood, and empowered.
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD) encompass a range of conditions, including postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mood-related issues. While mild “baby blues” are common, 1 in 7 women experience more significant symptoms that can appear during pregnancy or up to 12 months postpartum.
Common PMAD symptoms can include:
If these symptoms arise, please know you are not alone, and effective treatments are available.
Early recognition and treatment of PMAD can improve your overall well-being, enhance bonding with your baby, and reduce the impact of postpartum stress. With timely support, most women make a full recovery and regain the confidence and joy that motherhood can bring.
PMADs affect new and expectant mothers from every background. With compassionate care and reliable resources, you can begin to feel like yourself again. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms, please reach out for help.
